MNSI at the College of Paramedics pre-hospital maternity & newborn conference 2025

Last month we attended the College of Paramedics pre-hospital maternity & newborn conference 2025 to share key learning from MNSI investigations that can make maternity and newborn pre-hospital care safer:

  • We presented on our Health Equity Warning Score (HEWS), a risk-classification tool designed to identify non-clinical barriers to equitable care for women, birthing people and their babies. The HEWS considers protected characteristics alongside health and social determinants to flag when health equity may have been compromised.
  • Our poster on out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and resuscitative hysterotomy sparked constructive dialogue around pre-hospital maternity emergencies.
  • We also delivered a presentation sharing the findings of our ambulance-thematic work, carried out in partnership with two ambulance trusts, highlighting how paramedic and ambulance services can be supported to deliver safer maternity and newborn care in the pre-hospital phase.
