Seema Quasim

Seema is the Lead Clinical Advisor for the Anaesthetic and Critical Care team at the Maternity and Newborn Safety Investigation (MNSI) programme and a consultant anaesthetist at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. She trained at University of Birmingham, graduating with Honours and a BMedSc degree in Pharmacology. She undertook anaesthesia training in the Midlands and was appointed as a consultant anaesthetist in 2009.

In her clinical practice she has developed an interest in enhanced maternal care and is part of the pregnancy heart team at Coventry. She has held several roles in her Trust, including leading obstetric anaesthesia services. She is proud to have developed the multidisciplinary training in maternity services alongside her colleagues during her time as lead, and continues to take an active part in this. She has completed a Masters in Medical Education.

Alongside her clinical interest in high-risk pregnancies, Seema has led reviews on patient safety events at her Trust. She has been a subject matter advisor with HSIB (maternity investigations) and MNSI before her current role and has undertaken safety investigation training as part of these roles. Seema has collaborated in research into inequalities within obstetric anaesthesia. She is passionate about learning from safety events, whether that is through training, investigations or changing guidance and national policy, and this drives her to continue her work with MNSI.
