Sona Matharu

Programme Lead, Maternity and Neonatal Improvement Programme, Hillingdon Hospital

Sona is a programme and project management professional with extensive experience leading improvement across maternity and neonatal services. Most recently, she served as Programme Lead for the Maternity and Neonatal Improvement Programme at an NHS Trust. During this time, she oversaw significant quality and safety improvements. This work strengthened her expertise in effective governance and deepened her understanding of the vital role MNSI plays in providing robust oversight of safety investigations and keeping families at the centre of all learning.

Previously, Sona volunteered as Chair of the Maternity and Neonatal Voices Partnership (MNVP) within the same Trust, where she strengthened existing partnerships, established strong governance, and built trusted relationships with local community groups. Through regular walkarounds and direct engagement with mothers and birthing people, she ensured that service users’ voices informed meaningful change. She also developed a representative service user group to contribute actively to co-production of services.

Sona has supported families involved in investigations and seen the meaningful impact of MNSI’s work. She is deeply committed to improving perinatal care and brings her experience and passion to the Editorial Board.
